[NOTE: Still in Milwaukee, and reflecting on some of the lessons I’ve learned—so far—from my almost two-year-old nietecita.]
I’ve already learned so
much from my first grandchild, Elena, and she’s only 20 months old! When I’m with her,
I lose myself into her world of wonder, discovery, awe, and joy—so much joy!
Being and living in “Elena Time” is a gift in living life to the fullest by being truly present. When I’m in her moment, nothing else matters. And when I leave Elena Land, I feel like I’ve been on retreat—renewed in spirit, and able to see God in everything, specially the smallest of things.

I think this is what Jesus
meant when he said, “whoever receives one child such as this in my name,
receives me.” To receive a child, one must be truly present to that little
person, to enter her world and see with her eyes. It’s the gift of living the
present moment.
She is absolutely beautiful, and I agree about the beauty of living in the moment. When my girls were tiny, I remember feeling so grateful that we got to spend so much time together, and that we could just live life at "little girl pace" ... that is to say, slowly and with wonder. :)
